Gretel and Hansel Gingerbread Skeletons

Sweet taste; no cooking kids necessary!

The nice thing about this recipe is that it is fairly versatile and unlike luring little ones to your house, you just need a box mix and some basic tools. Less chance of a pesky kid throwing YOU in the oven too!

A dessert meant to honor the spooky story based on the fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. These cookies can be chewy or crispy, and decorated however you like, but we went with a bones motif.

Make these ahead of time!

Gretel and Hansel Gingerbread Skeletons

When you need a snack, without the fuss of fattening up kids from a fairy tale. We totally cheated and made box mix gingerbread for this one, but added our own flair too. More time for movies I say.

  4. Use gingerbread men cookies cutters to make little men

Decoration

Notes

Like your cookies crispier? Granulated sugar will help, but also substitute egg whites, removing the yolks completely. Substitute butter for oil

Like your cookies chewy?  Omit the granulated sugar and add an extra egg yolk to the mixture. If the dough it too runny, add extra flour until it is kneadable.

Ice cold dough is essential for the dough to take on cookie cutter shapes

Link to  Enco Royal Icing mix   This is honestly one of the easiest and best icing mixes I’ve used.

Make the icing ahead of time and add to a piping bag, or a Ziploc with the corner cut off. Letting the icing set will make it easier to work with.
