Whether you are a cop or a criminal in Baltimore, you need a refreshing break every now and then. This is such a regional summery treat, it was hard to pass up. Part of the Pilot Season Podcast.
The adorable Grogu is addicted to frog eggs, in bright blue liquid. We recreated this using an alcoholic and non-alcoholic version, featuring green grapes as the eggs.
It’s YOU’RE turn! Get ready for a punch guaranteed to quench the thirst and enthrall the party-goers.
A toast in some archaic cursed language is a must, and island elder gods will be really happy.
You know what 14 years in prison will do to a man? Certainly make him hungry! In this classic tale of revenge and redemption, Dumas introduces us to a world of being wronged, rising to the top and realizing that mercy and love are worth more than hate.
Psycho Goreman is one of my (new) favorite horror/comedy movies. We’ve watched it over on Shudder ( A subscription service for horror fans that’s WELL worth the cost!) many times now, and I finally got around to making something I felt was movie worthy. I present Red Crystals!
The marinara is red,
The angel hair is true.
There is nothing better than
Meatballs with you
This is a classic, and Hancock seemed to love it. Hey, as long as our ‘fridge isn’t outside, we’re good!
I will admit that we all thought this was almost over the top, but quickly devoured it anyway. I like how easy this soup is to get started. The richness comes out in the slow cooking.
What exactly did Jonathon summon and what language was that? Well, we are pretty sure it wasn’t a recipe for ghoulish. But, hey if the Ghoulies could summon a dinner, maybe this would be their choice?
What is Pumpkin Head? We have no idea, but we love this movie and how gut wrenching and scary it is. Unlike revenge, this is a dish that’s best served hot. Filled with rich, warm spices, cream and chicken stock, it’s a smooth soup that tastes like fall.
A dessert meant to honor the spooky story based on the fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. These cookies can be chewy or crispy, and decorated however you like, but we went with a bones motif. Make these ahead of time!
Mommy spots everything, doesn’t she? Spenser isn’t from the gas company … because of the skull ring! No self-respecting gas inspector would have one right? All kidding aside, we love the skull reference and made bread in the shape of a skull to eat while we watch just about any horror movie!
While everything including the food on Keppler 22-b was trying to kill the humans, Campion and Paul seem to have stumbled onto something. Mother of course thinks the beasts are best, and as Tempest said, “It tastes like pork.” We’ve created a savory pork and bean medley cooked in a way Mother would surely approve!
What is the correct dish to serve to dignitaries passing through? In Dorne, it must include wine. We’ve created a lush pear in wine dish that is sure to entertain any Martell you may encounter.
What better way to enjoy a game of Red Light, Green Light? A refreshing drink of lemonade and cranberry juice mixed together to create a drink worthy of a Pink Guard.
A grilled chicken with a lemon marinade and bright seasonings. Grilled in a junkyard, your backyard, or the oven, it’ll please even the hungriest salvagers. It’s not the BIG one, but it’s a close second.
Chicken Corn Chowder is a great treat for a cool autumn night watching The Witch or let’s face it, any movie. Originally first published as a recipe in 1884, it has come a long way from it’s simple beginnings. The time lines don’t match, but the flavor profile is something we think Black Phillip would tempt us with!
As featured on Cinema du Fromage, this made for tv movie is a strange one. It’s also fun and really tried to be scary. The movie deals with demons in an old fireplace, family secrets, drugged coffee, and a really bad case of 1970’s women being gaslit.
These knives were so fun to decorate with! We knew we’d have to do some slasher movies with them. We eventually chose Halloween, but honestly, any slasher movie would work with them. Cherry filling in the center makes them feel extra bloody.
Simple and delicious, we kept this simple and paired it with … what else? Gin! We made a sloe gin fizz but a non-alcoholic ginger ale paired well for the non-alcoholic drinkers too. We made crescent dough “fingers” too! Happy Halloween everyone!
The Witcher is one of my most favorite game franchises. So when Netflix rolled out it’s animate show Nightmare of the Wolf, I was excited.
The honey cakes were so integral to the plot, so we decided to recreate them. They are soft and can be crumbly, but taste delicious and it’s easy to see why young Geralt liked them so much.
The idea of gravestones on a grave, could apply to so many movies, but we have chosen Pet Sematary because Church was one of the best cats in movie history.
On September 22 we celebrate Hobbit’s Day! This year we made a creamy potato soup that is soul satisfying, filling enough for Smaug the dragon, and precious – even if Gollum doesn’t understand.
Explorers in the further regions of experience.
Maybe our ribs aren’t that good, but they are melt off the bone good. We also made these in a slow cooker which added a deep flavor to the meat that is sometimes lost in other cooking methods. There is lots of delicious sauce to pour over the ribs, making them look just like Franks.
What exactly is a blob if not giant rolling Jello? Genetically enhanced and space grown, this ravenously hungry and strangely sentient thing was so cool to watch devouring everything in sight. We made gelatin with bones and eyeballs, so we could get our just desserts. We don’t think it can eat us from the inside out!
Candyman is a guilty pleasure of violence and decadent storytelling. The deep layering of urban legend and myth are wound so deeply together, it’s easy to see why this movie has a cult following. We created a cranberry orange bundt cake in a beehive mold. It doesn’t need frosting, but we dripped honey over our delicious slices. Have a piece or five.
House of Wax (2005, panned on Rotten Tomatoes, but one of our favorites!) was all about layers. We layered cherries & raspberries inside goat cheese and covered them with dark chocolate. The fun of this dessert is in the gross idea that you are eating one of Vincent’s creations, without the guilt.
Ripley was not a fan of Mother Alien’s eggs and we’re pretty sure they would have tasted nasty too. Fortunately, we found a way to make a stuffed egg that is delicious and there is no acid; face hugging is optional.
This easy to make hors d’oeuvre is a delicious treat for the sense. Sweet, salty and with just a little kick like the scary goat himself.
The Witch was a complicated and masterfully shot horror film of New England lore. We love this movie and present a few of our favorite Black Phillip and New England Witch recipes.
We all know the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. As perfect as the Dr. thought he was, the monster got all fired up and ran amok. Fortunately this freakishly good salad will not come back to haunt you, but you probably should make one for your bride ( or groom). A classic Cobb salad is always a good movie night choice.
A Tannis root smoothie. Rosemary’s Baby continues to be one of the best mood films ever made for the horror genre and with this smoothie by our side, we all feel as pampered as an expectant parent. (Without the witchcraft.)
Inspired by Return of the Living Dead, Tar Man Hot Chocolate celebrates all the gooey goodness of Tar Man without the obvious side effects. As one zombie said: “It’s no brain, but it’s good!”
We’ll take it.
Grandma’s Favorite Chicken Pot Pies are the perfect menu item for your next “visit”. Pairing this classic comfort food dish with the movie The Visit might not uncover any secrets, but we know they’ll be tasty, even after 9.
Gnarled claws are the perfect addition to any horror movie night watching. We have called them Witch’s fingers, when braided a little tighter, they can also look like broomsticks. There is always a way we can incorporate this idea into a horror movie theme night.
What’s coming to Movies Make the Meal? Take a look ! We have holiday themes, and Harry Potter on deck.
Spiders are not my thing, but these guys are cute and taste delicious and super easy to make! Halloween themed and a perfect size for a pre-party snack or to pair with your next movie night with Eight Legged Freaks. BRB. I need to get some Raid.
Huge exiled terrorist brains floating around controlling people (and dogs!). There is a little something for everyone in this B movie from 1957. Grab some of our pasta brains and slime ( alfredo sauce w/spinach) and at least your meal will be in good in taste.
Willard – a long time favorite movie of mine, is ripe with horror tones, scary imagery and really terrible things done by men and animals alike. We made Bloody Nested Rats for this movie!
Classic Bond Style Martinis are on deck along with a chocolate twist. Martinis Bond Style for your next 007 movie night or to see Casino Royale – This movie is not for the weak or James Bond fans, but the alcohol is great!
Another Cinema du Fromage recipe. The podcast was fun, the movie was sexy and hey, cream dreams work. This cake recipe was indulgent and delicious, and great for a night in while you watch your neighbors … or the movie Body Double.
The Car, was my film choice for our podcast on Cinema du Fromage, and it was classic cheese. “Car”damom shakes we fun to make and quite delicious. A great high octane drink to enjoy while watching the devil hit the throttle and people hurl insults in a graveyard.
Honesty, watching this movie was a little torturous, but the fun snack we cooked up wasn’t! Try our Omega bread and serum while you watch Charlton Heston fight the vampire like creatures trying to evict him! (Cinema du Fromage)
Christmas, Halloween, Heatwave. Any time of year is a good time to watch Johnny Depp play the misfit boy with scissors for hands. We can all get into the act with our sculpted raspberry ice, but please be careful; knives are sharp!
There is a lot of running, and traveling in this movie and nothing says Wild West like energy filled chili! (Okay that’s weak, but my best Westworld recipes are paired with the series). This recipe is honestly one of my favorite comfort foods with or without the rogue A.I.s
Mrs Allardyce and her home are the epitome of Southern charm. In hospitality circles, tea sandwiches are a mainstay and one that never goes out of style. Paired with mint tea, these cucumber and cream cheese finger foods are the perfect getaway from the summer heat … and make a nice offering too!
It’s time to get something to eat boppers, and have we got a treat for you. Fries topped with Coney sauce ( a traditional topping for hot dogs made famous at Coney Island and home to the Warriors). Try not to fight over them. This recipe is an easy hearty snack that much like the Warriors, will disappear fast.
