Dornish Pears in Wine

Do Sand Snakes eat fruit? Maybe they’ll like this!

What is the correct dish to serve to dignitaries passing through? In Dorne, it must include wine. We’ve created a lush pear in wine dish that is sure to entertain any Martell you may encounter.

Dornish Pears in Wine

Worthy of the sunny Dorne and it's famous wine, this A Game of Thrones dish pairs, well pears and wine for a sweet treat. No poison added, no matter what Lady Olenna Tyrell says.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Time to marinate pears 3 hours

Ingredients

  • 5 – 6 large Pears washed and cut into chunks or slices
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
Optional Pears
  • 2 cans pears in heavy syrup decrease sugar in recipe to 1/4 cup
  • 2 cups Strong Red Wine See notes for wine suggestions
  • 1/2 cup Orange juice concentrate (in the frozen section)
  • 1 large Orange Sliced
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Method

  1. Add wine, sugar and orange juice to a bowl or dish that can be covered.
  2. Add the nutmeg and cinnamon
  3. Add pears to the wine mixture and let set in your refrigerator for at least 3 hours
  4. Pour mixture into a sauce pan and simmer on low for 15 min, stirring ocassionally.
  5. Add orange slices as garnish and serve warm.

Notes

We kick this up a notch by cooking red hots candy in with the pears. Remove them before serving. They add a spicy flavor that tastes great, but may be too intense for some.

This is one of my favorite A Game of Thrones recipes. It’s different, and has a nice kick to it.
